The Ab Fab Dollhouse Project

Some update photos re: the brick (which is actually tumbled marble...I wanted to make my own brick but it turned out to be a bigger pain than I expected it to be) and the painting. The dollhouse was in worse condition than I remembered, and it was necessary to completely slather it with latex paint inside and out. Paint covers a multitude of sins, really. I've also been applying drywall compound to some of the walls, in order to cover the chipboard. Next up is the application of the crown molding, then finishing the brick and stucco on the top side. Once the outside of the house is finished, I can move it indoors and finish the inside more comfortably.

Welcome to my progress journal for my Ab Fab-themed dollhouse. I'm remodelling my old childhood dollhouse as a fall/winter project to keep myself from climbing the walls. I sort of grew up with the show and identified closely with the Saffy character; after so many years, the set sort of looks homey to me. The dollhouse needed renovating anyway, so why not?

Here are some photos of the unsuspecting dollhouse, pre-refurbishing, still in storage in my parents' garage.

My mother has appropriated the top floor for bin lid storage.

Great effort will be involved in covering up that chipboard and making it much more chic. The roof is coming off and part of the side will be bricked. Once the outside is finished, I'll move the house indoors and get working on the fun parts.

Luckily, I'm a Re-ment collector from way back so I have most of the homey little furnishings already. Due to lack of resources, the house is going to have to be a mix of all the seasons. I'm not a gung-ho enough fan to duplicate any one season in exhaustive detail, I'm just going for overall feel. Here are some of the kitchen furnishings...I do have the marble for the kitchen table surface, it just needs to be cut.
I'm working on upholstering the basement TV area furniture..

and steadily building the cache of miniatures...

(that glass thing in the upper left corner is intended as the bathroom sink from Season 5).

Anyhow, I plan to stick the progress photos here so that people can check at leisure and I won't become a message board pest. Sorry for the crap layout but I'm still getting used to this.

Cheers, thanks a lot.
